Yeah, I'm a big, BIG fan of Affinity, their buy-it-once model (and happy to do the bundle purchase); but, for years I put up with this 30-60 second launch delay.  I read your explanation about providing a universal binary because of Mx and Intel chips; but, I also have to ask how Adobe and the others mentioned above do this and still have quicker startup times.
When I use your Photo, Designer, and Publisher apps so frequently, but have to deal with the slow launch (almost every new day so I doubt Apple is updating YARA/etc. daily without my knowledge), I'm growing tired...very tired of this.
PLEASE...huddle the team and focus on your customer's experience (aka UX).  Come up with a solution!

    Hi Dan

How does Adobe avoid this?  They have large application file sizes too. Mathematica. Cubase. .. none of them are small?
Also yes - do publish architecture specific binaries for those that want them - give people a choice, nothing is going to stop them using the Apple App Store.
Also please revisit the decision around the embedded user-profile stuff - it isn' needed, it is bloatware, it adds complexity and technical and security risk, and users are 100% happy to work with their profiles on the web.

Please reconsider providing architecture specific builds for macOS Intel and Apple Silicon directly from Affinity. I know that doesn't help with the App Store Universal builds issue, but at least you could help those customers who have purchased directly from you. Oh, and an added benefit would be showing some respect to users with smaller hard-drives by not shipping GBs of libs they don't need.
Simply saying 'sorry for the inconvenience, but we're not going to bother to at least fix it where we can' just further demonstrates Serif's contempt for its users.

    Hi @PeterSvancar,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
Please follow the steps described in my post above here. Or basically create a duplicate of the Affinity Photo.app file located in the Applications folder somewhere else (for example in the desktop Desktop) then drag the duplicate back to the Applications folder to overwrite the original app file. The duplicate should start as fast as it used to be.

EXACTLY.  All you have to do is copy Aperture.  That for the first release would steal the market because just about everyone of us commenting here, loving Affinity Photo (and Designer), are still moaning over Apple's blatant disregard for its photographic professional customers.  Organization of photographs is paramount, with editing in the same app just a pure bonus.  Aperture with NIK, MacPhun, and other plug-ins ruled.  Then when I needed something, I fired up that AWESOME, FANTASTIC search dialog in Aperture and ... BAM ... there were my assets.

So, as 2017 comes to an end, and we've discussed this all year long, and since 2016, it's time to see a result.
