Hi PixelPest and thanks so much for illustrating this for me and I was doing ok and even read about the double node issue in a few of the earlier posts. At least I can see what to do if this happens again. I drew it out a few times and convinced myself that it must be an issue despite reading about the double node thing and that was because part of my brain assumed that once I had used the Geometry- add the shapes together for the 2 wall plane views- to the side and front views/grids then that would have eliminated the issue. I have been able to continue with tutorial which is great and thanks for that. Perhaps it is my technique slipping into bad practice that led to this double node on top of each other as it was not occurring on both point 5 and 6 which is what I found odd. Be great if Serif built in a little warning thing on this. I have done the Udemy foundation Affinity Designer course and that was what it said on the tin but I wanted to take the tutorials further and have been relying on some very good Youtube tutorials. The basic tutorials on the Serif.com are good but dont cover this sort of stuff and very grateful for you forum guys taking time out to assist. I have experienced a similar but different issue and have uninstalled/reinstalled AD plus factory reset. Having completed some tutorial exercises with the corner tool successfully this issue has developed in the last few days. If I am in Isometric mode on a curve of 2 walls that have been added to make one shape then the corner tool fails to operate as it was operating and I have posted a small video of the manifestation. In a normal plane or plan setting ie draw a rectangle and select corner tool and select shape I can construct corners to each of the 4/3/2/1 nodes but as shown in video something has happened as I was able to do this simple marquee selection using the corner tool and pressing option/alt key on my mac and it was working in iso mode. Note that the layer is singular and says "curve" having joined 2 "wall sections" together with Geometry add shapes and I have not touched any other operation such as bake appearance in version 1.10.4. It seems to have just developed as the 2 middle nodes indicate. One at the top middle does not work but is highlighted in small red. I have checked with wide stroke and all appears as I would expect and there is a closed shape. The external corners work ok - any ideas. I have uploaded file and crash report as well corner iso issue.mp4

Thanks for the effort that goes into these "free templates" which for the beginner are a real help. Having read the comments above is there anyway to get the 2021 calendar to update to 2022? Or is it necessary to edit each month. Data Merge is possible and I wondered if anyone had amended this to include this feature? Nigel

Locked layers occured to me on MacBook with latest OS and using AD 1.10.4 and I restarted by closing and restarting both software and Mac. It cured it but might be triggered by copying in layer from another affinity designer file. No renaming was available in the menu and no ability to drag layers. It was possible to move the layer within the group stack but not into another group. However a temp workaround was to cut/paste the layer to where it was wanted but eventually better to restart system as above.

I think that this video is from the official AP tutorial site and is one of the easier videos that they provide but once again it could be so much better to provide a link to the two images used to enable beginners to try out and learn on the job as it were. I kinda recognised that guys voice after endeavouring to follow through his tutorials and as I say this is much easier to follow than some of the others.

Hi Dan C Thanks for your response Dan and I have been up to my eyes in issues so have not had a chance to response. I was able to get the issue resolved and downloaded the video and guess as a newbie user must have missed a step but here is the link to the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbYVFmxO87U I managed to relocate the work in progress ( now attached) I did on this affinity revolution youtube and I took scans pics of the side legend of AP to show the issue on child masks and eventually got it to pop into the right location. You will if you have the time and patience to listen to the young lady hear her say that AP has an issue which I think is quite well documented about having to drag up etc and then down to get the arrangement of mask into right location. She is using an earlier version of AP and not sure if the version 1.9.3 has improved this but as I say got it took work but my humble efforts are no where near what she achieved on the video especially when it comes to creating some shine on the lipgloss. My wife pops in when I messing about with learning AP and she had a good laugh at me with this lipstick one - I know that using a wamcom board? makes things easier but when you are just starting out with AP I would not be rushing out to buy such and often despite my efforts the screen display adjustment is an or can be a significant issue. I am struggling with trying to print photos out on my home printer that prints CMYK and get close to the RGB colours on the screen with AP and there is no proper coordination or print menu with a HP Envy printer and the print menu in AP albeit that I have only just seen that there is a soft proof adjustment that I have not even started to use yet or play around with. I think that the effort that has gone into and or is going into AP improvement is great and I can live with the minor glitches. One of the weaknesses is raw workflow with AP that hopefully will be addressed in version 2 upwards as that is frustrating but I use Capture One express to get around that issue as AP raw workflow is not good with no side car file storage etc. I did do a Udemy AP course when it was££££ discounted but the AP on line tutorials are not always helpful for the beginner. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvesoDALbFo This so called basics on masks is well not helpful and misleading and could be massively improved if they provided the link to download the image that Ritson works with !!!! I am not stupid and for the life of me cannot follow this guy and then I look at the comments and it is common amongst the views he has had and AP could do a lot better especially given its success in competing with the rip off PS. I am a newbie user and was following a YouTube free 'tutorial' by "Affinity Revolution", which involves adding a mask which is selected by using "alt/opt"(on a Mac) so it is black to a fill layer then painting [b] the mask on where the lips were on the background layer of model ladies face (changing the colour of the lips-applying lipstick). This section works ok but then it is necessary to add the fx gaussian live filter to the mask as a 'child layer' so the fix in the tutorial was to drag the mask to the top above the blended-multiply fill layer by moving it initially in a downwards motion and above the fill layer (and it was probably an earlier version of AP to my current version of 1.9.3 but see my first image from left). This enabled the 'solution of dragging the fx blur filter down and up and slightly to the right of the mask' so it sat as a 'child layer' to the mask (see 2nd image below). Then one is supposed to be able to drag the mask down and to the right of the fill layer as in the 3rd image along. The first 3 images are taken from the video. In my many attempts I was not able to do this until I managed to achieve a state that appeared to be adhering to the requirements of the fx being a child to the Mask. It is or was fiddly and very hit and miss ? However, the Gaussian blur worked ok on the mask of the lips but when I went and used the next stage of the video - Blend Options applied to the Fill layer this did not work at all despite adjusting slowly and endeavouring to copy the video see the last photo. So I checked and was highlighting or clicking on the Fill layer to apply that Blend option and it was though it was switched off. I am not sure if this is a further glitch? The blend options was meant to darken the shadows and lighten highlights or something like that. Nothing was happening. Any comments would be helpful I am posting on this issue as it does seem to be a problem for beginners.

Hi I am currently using Affinity 1.9.3 and have installed the Nik Legacy version and it is running ok but have only tried out Color Efx Pro 4 and Silver Pro2 and no issues. I got over the Big Sur issue on my MacBook ok as well. The issue is that each time I load AP and start to use Nik Collection a nag screen pops up inviting me to update to version 1.13... ( no mention of version 3 which I know has to be paid for and I have not installed trial or any paid version so as I had only installed Nik Legacy a couple of days ago I was a little surprised to be getting the invite to update my version accordingly. I downloaded my version of Nik legally following the email invite through the main Nik site but I was wondering if this invite trips one up by installing the legacy to the version 3 and you end up losing the legacy free version and having to uninstall. I just wondered if anyone else using AP 1.9.3 with Legacy version of Nik has received this nag invite screen which is easily cancelled and ignored or whether it is worth jumping in and filling my boot with a legacy update ?? Look forward to hearing from anyone as I tried doing a search on forum and there is not much info on Nik Legacy as mostly postings on the paid version Nigel

Thanks for update and it did eventually work but to begin with it seemed to stay on icon showing AFF Pub but this morning having tried it both ways it had now changed thanks once again Nigel

In Finder on MacBook using BigSur OS all the 'raw' files that have been created by my Fuji camera have the correct name , xxxx123.RAF but the icon displays .afpub and I would like it to display .afphoto. So if I double click on it it opens in Affinity Publisher. I have tried right click and using Open With that is already set to Affinity Photo v 1.9.3 ironically but if I double click on the icon it open with Aff Pub etc I have also tried open with and then clicking other and then when the dialogue 'choose an application to open the document' comes up I select AFF Photo but tick or check always open with but this does not change the icon and action is still AFF PUB unless I manually select app from a list that are all capable of opening this image/photo I remember in Windows I could globally alter file associations but cannot find how to do this on mac book
