That SIP disable has to be done in recovery mode, right?

It seems that may be the case for a few days, then BOOM! Bounce-hell. Good luck.

Please don't confuse my attitude about their (in)ability to fix a problem they said they would (but haven't), with the quality and value of the the product. I still recommend the product to friends and hope someday they become the "Adobe killer". They certainly do not deserve "a break" on fixing an issue (or at least coming clean with the fact that they probably never will) that only their software has yet being blamed on Apple. FWIW, I would 100% excuse them if they said they've taken development resources away from fixing the startup issue to concentrate on throwing together an Acrobat clone that sells for $50.

I'm pretty sure they don't care. It was, what -- April of this year when we last heard from them on this topic when we were told they were working on a solution? They blame it on Apple because they use a browser UI for the splash screen (you can't develop a native splash screen graphic in like a day?) and some other elements in the app? Does no other software company use browser UI or does Apple have it out for Affinity apps and are purposefully targeting them with slow as mud startup? It's been over a year now since this issue and nothing has changed. Probably never will.

I recall that to be the case in the beginning -- direct app worked normally. Then, after a while, people started reporting delays at launch also. So, enjoy the normal operation while it lasts!

Two months since last update from Affinity. Any new news? This slow launching of Affinity apps has been 8+ months and no clue how to fix it?

Well count me in on slow starting of web downloaded versions. After the MAS versions started slowing, I downloaded trials of the 3 apps from your website. Those worked for a couple weeks then went slow. I know they were the trial versions because those were the ones I had in my dock. FWIW, the copy app kludge seems to work after doing preliminary trials. Interesting, though, that other apps (like Pixelmator Pro, AppleSilicon/App Store version) do not exhibit slow starting at all.

Of course, there are many reports of the startup delay affecting the web-versions of the app. I, for one, reported that while I purchased the App Store versions of all the apps and all were displaying the start delay, I also then downloaded trial version from your web-store and while at first they started normally, in a couple weeks they also started to display the start delay similar to the App Store versions. I removed the trials as they were no better than the App Store at that point. Given it's been 2 months since this started and you're "still investigating", it sounds like it's not a high priority for your team.

Even more sad that Affinity isn't communicating what is going on and when we can expect a fix. The problem wasn't there in the previous version and suddenly appeared in an update. Is this really rocket science? Is there an OFFICIAL FAQ somewhere on this? Since it affects all Affinity Apps and the forum is divided up by app, is there a central forum for bugs on ALL APPS?

Every single one of my apps are Universal, except for one. I've made a point of installing only Universal versions (including a beta of the Universal version of Microsoft 365 apps), and none of them have this issue. I'm not a developer so I don't know how the process works, but there must be a difference in the code between the App Store version and the standalone version. I see the size of the file is different, so they are not the same. In any case, I'm stuck on using a trial (which is temporary) so please don't sit back and wait to see if others have the same issue. You have two people with the problem. I'm happy to assist in troubleshooting, or...you could actually download the Universal app from the App Store on a M1-based Mac and try it yourself.

Thanks. I had read a similar article, but it mentioned that App Store apps don't use OCSP. Not sure if that's true or not, but I do not believe that is my issue for a few reasons: The article says the OCSP check is cached for 12 hours. My Affinity apps from the App Store have the long delay EVERY TIME they are first launched or a long period of time goes by since it was launched. The article says that if the Mac is OFFLINE, the check is skipped. I can disconnect my Mac from the network and the launch delay is still there. It is no longer November 12, 2020. The delays in OCSP have been fixed. No reason why this should be happening if it's OCSP related (Apple's fault). It could still be an issue with Affinity. The standalone apps do not delay on launch. Ever. They do the same OCSP checks, right?

Brand new Mac Mini M1. Very first thing I installed was the three Affinity apps I purchased from the App Store. Once installed, upon launch, I noticed a very long delay before the app appeared. I closed and relaunched and launch time was normal (2-3 seconds). I rebooted and launched again. On the first launch, each of the apps takes 17 seconds to launch. Tested again and again with same results, each time rebooting and then launching apps. I then compared launch time of the same App Store apps on my Intel Mac. 4 seconds, consistently for all the apps. Someone on another forum mentioned something about OCSP and App Store apps, so I decided to try an experiment -- I downloaded and installed trial versions of the three Affinity apps directly from the Affinity site. Surprisingly, all the apps launch 2-3 seconds every time. So, it does seem something is wrong with the App Store apps at first launch of session. I'm guessing on the first launch, once an App Store app has been approved by OCSP, it doesn't make that check again during that session and is why it launches normally after the 1st try? (just guessing, I have no idea...) Just to be clear, the time it takes once the app is clicked and when the splash screen appears is 17 seconds. Crazy long! Anyone have any ideas how to rectify this?
