  1. I would have to say that whatever issue you were seeing with the long delay that was somewhat fixed by the "copy app" workaround is not fixed by this OpeGL--> Metal switch because while Designer was set to OpenGL, my Photo and Publisher were already on Metal and have had the slow start for over a year. Logically, this switch may fix some other slow startup issue but not the one that plagues the App Store apps.
  2. While it seems like a solution, copying the app trick does revert back to 17-22 bounces after some time. Trust me on this.
  3. No, but for me, I don't use all the Affinity apps all the time. So keeping them all open all the time is just a waste of resources.
  4. Affinity will have you believe that. Yet no other apps have this annoying delay. My Pixelmator Pro from the App Store starts instantly, for example. Affinity seems content to sit on their hands and point the blame on Apple instead of changing their App store version so there isn't such a huge delay. The "copy-of-app" fix doesn't work anymore -- they take forever to launch now.
  5. You are fooling yourself if you think, after almost 18 months, that Affinity is actually working on fixing this. They aren't.
  6. Buy lottery tickets. You have a better chance of winning the lottery than Serif/Affinity fixing the app.
  7. Yes, it's been stated that the problem is with the App Store versions of the apps.
  8. Did you try the "copy App" trick? Make copies of each Affinity app and put those down in your Dock and launch. For me, it's worked much better with just a few bounces on initial launch (after a fresh boot or restart) and almost immediate if quit and relaunched. Do you mean if you quit the app and immediately launch it,, it still bounces 14 times? That's not right, even for Affinity.
  9. Doesn't work. Also, needs to have "sudo" before each command otherwise you get permission denied.
  10. In my testing last year when all this started, it was initially thought that only the App Store version was affected, so I downloaded trial version from the Affinity web site, and installed those also. At first, they appears to start normally, but after a few days, even the web site downloaded versions would stall at startup. I wound up removing the web versions. Making duplicates of the apps and using the duplicates also did not seem to keep working properly and would start stalling. So, I haven't seen a permanent fix. Someone above recommended some host file entries. That did not work for me at all, unless there is more to it than editing the host file and running the app. Mine still stalled (20+ bounces on first launch).
  11. That SIP disable has to be done in recovery mode, right?
  12. It seems that may be the case for a few days, then BOOM! Bounce-hell. Good luck.
  13. Please don't confuse my attitude about their (in)ability to fix a problem they said they would (but haven't), with the quality and value of the the product. I still recommend the product to friends and hope someday they become the "Adobe killer". They certainly do not deserve "a break" on fixing an issue (or at least coming clean with the fact that they probably never will) that only their software has yet being blamed on Apple. FWIW, I would 100% excuse them if they said they've taken development resources away from fixing the startup issue to concentrate on throwing together an Acrobat clone that sells for $50.
  14. I'm pretty sure they don't care. It was, what -- April of this year when we last heard from them on this topic when we were told they were working on a solution? They blame it on Apple because they use a browser UI for the splash screen (you can't develop a native splash screen graphic in like a day?) and some other elements in the app? Does no other software company use browser UI or does Apple have it out for Affinity apps and are purposefully targeting them with slow as mud startup? It's been over a year now since this issue and nothing has changed. Probably never will.
  15. I recall that to be the case in the beginning -- direct app worked normally. Then, after a while, people started reporting delays at launch also. So, enjoy the normal operation while it lasts!
  16. Unfortunately, 1.10 does not fix the slow launch. 23 bounces on the dock when starting. I guess this will never be fixed.
  17. Two months since last update from Affinity. Any new news? This slow launching of Affinity apps has been 8+ months and no clue how to fix it?
  18. With the release of 1.90 today, I find that the startup times are the same (or worse) than 1.86 on my M1 Mini. On my Intel-based Mac, startup times seem normal for 1.90 (less than 5 seconds). Still not great, but within expected times.
  19. Well count me in on slow starting of web downloaded versions. After the MAS versions started slowing, I downloaded trials of the 3 apps from your website. Those worked for a couple weeks then went slow. I know they were the trial versions because those were the ones I had in my dock. FWIW, the copy app kludge seems to work after doing preliminary trials. Interesting, though, that other apps (like Pixelmator Pro, AppleSilicon/App Store version) do not exhibit slow starting at all.
  20. Of course, there are many reports of the startup delay affecting the web-versions of the app. I, for one, reported that while I purchased the App Store versions of all the apps and all were displaying the start delay, I also then downloaded trial version from your web-store and while at first they started normally, in a couple weeks they also started to display the start delay similar to the App Store versions. I removed the trials as they were no better than the App Store at that point. Given it's been 2 months since this started and you're "still investigating", it sounds like it's not a high priority for your team.
  21. Even more sad that Affinity isn't communicating what is going on and when we can expect a fix. The problem wasn't there in the previous version and suddenly appeared in an update. Is this really rocket science? Is there an OFFICIAL FAQ somewhere on this? Since it affects all Affinity Apps and the forum is divided up by app, is there a central forum for bugs on ALL APPS?
  22. That is a known problem. There is a thread about it here: However, although it's been a known problem for over a month, the team at Affinity have not fixed it.
  23. This thread is mainly about how long it takes to just launch (start) any of the Affinity apps without opening any data files (ie., just clicking one of the app icons to launch it). That's the issue everyone here is talking about.
  24. Not related to Affinity apps, but yesterday Microsoft Autoupdate did the exact same thing -- took about 30 seconds to launch, with the icon bouncing in the dock the entire time. Could this behavior be something with Big Sur?
