kokosmolch reacted to JoeJammer in No DXF EXPORT in Designer 2 ..are you serious!?
My company is a manufacturer of art pieces, signage, Furniture, awards etc. etc.   Our equipment ranges from commercial waterjet, CNC routers, Commercial lasers, Etc. Etc.  ALL OF OUR EQUIPMENT USES DXF FILES EXCLUSIVELY.  We can not run our equipment on .ai files, or SVG files etc.  All of the controller software on almost all our machines uses DXF files for cutting etc. .
I guess if you are in your garage using a laser that you bought on amazon, you likely don't need or use DXF files, but the purpose of my post is to tell you that if you are doing anything in the professional world with something other than hobby equipment, you are likely needing to EXPORT DXF files.  I just bought affinity 2's suite earlier today excited about DXF, and am now disappointed like the rest of those who bought for the same reasons, that I have to continue the ridiculously expensive  illustrator program just to be able to export DXF. I should have read a little further before purchasing..... I'll keep the software, but hopefully Affinity wises up and realizes that many people are looking to their software as an alternative to adobe, but this particular little thorn is rendering it something that will cause it to sit closed in my applications folder until one day when I can use it as I hoped.  I'm keeping it so that I can open it occasionally to update it to see if it will eventually support export of DXF files.

    Disappointed!!
    Cheers

I can't see if I posted in this thread yet or not, but again I was surprised that Affinity doesn't support DXF when I tried today.
Zero chance that anyone where I work will even consider Affinity without this as well (but granted, there are other showstoppers in Affinity too).

I strongly vote for that feature too.
We often need to export splines out of 3ds max and without a DXF/DWG import/exporter, we can´t bring them directly to Designer.
    Thank you!

Well, I will add my voice to the chorus. I thought I could ditch Creative Cloud and never look back...

Absolutely. Trying to generate a file this morning for a laser cutter. Have to export to PDF and then go online to use a free converter. Doesn't always work correctly. This feature is essential and why Affinity hasn't worked it out I'm baffled. There are EXR HDR and TGA which frankly I doubt anyone uses. Please guys, this feature is long overdue!

Get on it guys, for real. DXF/DWG Import/Export is the door to a big group of people frustrated with illustrator that will switch to AD once the feature is added.

DXF import and export is a must have to offer a good alternative to other often used programs.
I love the workflow in the complete suite of Affinity, but the lack of DXF import and export for architectural work is such a big failure that I can't advice my colleages to switch from CorelDraw to Affinity. Please add this functionality!

+1 from me..  please.. its mandatory and you can use open source implementation code for it
I currently have to use Inkscape for it, to import it as SVG into Designer, then edit it, then export it as SVG and open it in Inkscape and export it as DXF/DWG again.
It is really weird that an open source programm like Inkscape has proper import + export and Designer hasnt

Still not in 1.8, but hey, stock photo import panel, how many people requested that one? Are you kidding us?

I'm designing electric guitars in Fusion360 and while love the technical approach over there it is not very well suited for aesthetical design. I therefore gave AD a try and love it for several reasons, but I NEED to be able to transfer my design from AD to Fusion360 without loss of precision and DXF is the way to go. I'm using an online converter now and I always get tiny deviations which are a pain in the ass to compensate manually, we all know how many small changes are made in a design process ang going through converting and adjusting every single time is not what I expect from a professional design software.

Hi. I'd like to be able to set the origin for an exported SVG. I tried setting the Designer document’s origin to a point in my vector curve by dragging the ruler orgin, with point snapping turned on, to one of the points in my curve, then exporting. Unfortunately, the app I import the resulting SVG into (Fusion 360) seems to think the upper-left corner is the origin. I'm pretty sure I've seen examples from others where other parts of their imported SVG is considered the origin, so I don't think that's the problem.
    Thanks!
