linds.saurus reacted to MattP in Not opening .ai file thinks its a PDF file
It sounds like you're trying to open the .ai file into Affinity Designer and the PDF stream that we expect to be in the file isn't there. This is usually caused by the .ai file either being for an old version of Illustrator (prior to version 8 or 9?) or just simply not including the 'compatibility' PDF stream. In either of those cases, we won't be able to open the file. Would you be able to say which online tool generated the file? We might be able to see if there is any way around it?

    Thanks,

[EDIT] Ah, I just spotted on your other thread that you might be using http://online.rapidresizer.com/tracer.php? If that's the case, just export as SVG, PDF or EPS and all should be well :)

Here are some images that I would try to trace.
Sometimes I prefer the "rough sketch" look and not the clean Bezier look.

linds.saurus reacted to dkistner1111 in Flatten Transparency in Affinity Designer
I am not up on all the designer lingo, but I do know I have to flatten any transparency in my cover designs before uploading the 300dpi PDF to my book printer. When I was working with Illustrator, to get the work to look right, I had to untick the default setting for flattening transparency and enable "preserve alpha channel," I think it was called.

I can't find a way to flatten transparencies in Affinity Designer. Maybe I just don't understand the terms used (rasterizing, etc.).

Can somebody please tell me how I can flatten all the transparencies in an afdesign document? And if it can't be done, what are my options? Is there an export feature that will allow me to accomplish this, as there is with converting to curves on PDF output?

    TIA,
    Diane
