  1. Thanks Dave! One final question (and if I should post this in a seperate thread let me know): since I may need to switch to Illustrator before you guys are finished adding the PDF/X support: Is there any timetable for being able to export .AI files? I didn't notice this on the 'Plan' for future features, and while I see that Designer can import them, I don't see any option for .AI under Export. Cheers
  2. Oh, ok, I see. Please pardon my ignorance! I found Affinity Photo from a web search on "free photoshop alternative", and somehow my reading of other posts (as the one mentioned above) didn't reveal to me that Designer was a separate thing. Okay, so I got the Designer 10-day trail version, and indeed this behaves as expected. And, if I copy & paste a text-along-path from Designer into Photo, then I can still edit the text & path in Photo. As for buying Designer...it looks great and I'd like to, but I'm working on a print project and will ultimately need to output PDF/X-4 files, which it seems Designer doesn't do (yet). So for now, looks like it's not the 'Illustrator Killer' app I was hoping for...and needing :-(. I'd be happy to buy Designer instead of signing up for Adobe CC if the PDF/X-4 support will happen soon (??). Otherwise...guess I gotta buy Illustrator or impose upon friends that already have it.
  3. Found a workaround for now: 1. Draw a new shape in expand-from-center mode (Commad-Drag) 2. Choose "Layer to Selection" (Shift-Command-O) 3. Press the delete key to delete the layer with the shape on it 4. You're left with the selection you wanted! A few extra keystrokes, but it gets the job done. Just Command-Drag for Marquee creation would a nice feature, and consistent with other tool behavior!
  4. New user, just downloaded the beta! Have been using GIMP and Pixlr but wanted CMYK support. Happy with Affinity so far!
  5. Hi, I'm a GIMP user who's just downloaded the beta -- v. 1.2.0.24665 -- after finding I need some CMYK support. Loving it so far! One thing I'm confused about: How do you get the Marquee Tool to expand from the center instead of from a corner? In GIMP, this is a Tool Option you can check. In Affinity I see that you can hold down command when creating a *shape* (like a circle) and it will expand from the center, but when I try this in the Marquee tool it just ignores the fact that I pressed the command key when creating the selection. (After creating the selection, Command-dragging will grab and move what's been selected. This is not what I"m interested in.) This seems like it would be a pretty standard, desirable feature, so... is it in some Preferences menu? Maybe an "Expand from Center" sub-menu checkbox that I need to find? Haven't been able to find it yet.. I've also tried Command-Option-Shift-Control clicking and haven't gotten it... Thanks! PS- As a workaround, I tried creating a shape via expand-from-center, and then using the Flood Selection Tool on the shape -- but this tool seemed to ignore my shape, i.e. I couldn't get the Flood Selection Tool to do..anything.
  6. Hi, I'm a new user who just downloaded the beta. I've searched and seen many posts in the forums from over the past year, requesting text-along-curve functionality, and then seeing posts that that it was added, and even comments about having trouble with it (e.g. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/8070-text-on-curve-not-aligned/). I can't figure out how to do this at all -- I've tried drawing a circle, and then selecting Artistic Text Tool and putting it near the curve as I've read in various forum posts, but when I put the cursor near the circle nothing changes, and if I click and start typing text, it doesn't follow the curve of the circle, it's just regular straight text. What am I doing wrong? Thanks. I'm using Affinity Photo Beta 1.2.0.24665.
