I'm getting the following error when opening a specific Illustrator file (the page is filled with blocks of the following):

Quote

This is an Adobe® Illustrator® File that was saved without PDF Content. To Place or open this file in other applications, it should be re-saved from Adobe Illustrator with the "Create PDF Compatible File" option turned on. This option is in the Illustrator Native Format Options dialog box, which appears when saving an Adobe Illustrator file using the Save As command.

This particular file works fine in Illustrator and I've never encountered this issue with other Illustrator files before.

I'm unable to share the file publicly as it contains confidential client assets. I would of course happily share it with a Serif employee for the purpose of investigation.

Cheers!

The message is as it says...it does not contain a pdf copy in the AI file.

The pdf portion of the file is necessary as it is the only portion of an AI file most applications other than AI opens. You would get the same message attempting to place the file even in InDesign. Including the pdf portion is the default in AI, so someone purposefully shut it off, probably to save on the file size.

As you seem to have Illy, open the file, do a Save As and make sure you are saving a PDF compatible file.

This isn't a bug.

Thanks, I didn't know that is how it works.

The error message could be a bit more descriptive and include this explanation.
