Text frame tool creates Master page

Recommended Posts

I may be missing something obvious, but when I want to create a text frame within my 36 page document, so as to insert some pull quotes on a page with content on for example, as I drag the text frame tool to create the frame it always creates one of the Master pages which has the column guides, etc. I just want a blank text box to do with what I want! What am I missing?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, @Macvert.

First, some terminology: The Frame Text tool cannot create a Master Page. Only you can create Master Pages, using functions in the Pages panel. All the Frame Text tool can create is Text Frames. And it will create that frame on whatever page you have selected as the current page when you use the tool.

The tools remember their settings in some circumstances. So, if you previously used the Frame Text tool and specified the number columns (there's a setting in the Context Toolbar, or in the Text Frame panel) then it might have remembered that setting.

You can reset it in the Context Toolbar: image.png.dcee5d2fab898cca1a2351b5a7ebe411.png

It might also depend on whether you have told Publisher to save defaults. If you told Publisher to save defaults, that would affect your current document and new documents. If you did that, then you will need to reset the defaults for Text Frames. So, with nothing selected, from the menu use Edit > Defaults > Revert.
