another noob question, about layers this time

Recommended Posts

so im retouching a portrait, and at the end i want to shrpen or reduce noise. i start with frequency separtion on a duplicate layer, then after that a couple of new adjustment layers, after all those i want to sharpen or reduce noise. how do i go about this?

i tried adding a new pixel layer but nothing happens when i apply filters to it. i tried to merge visible, that works i can apply live filters to it but i can no longer readjust my previous layers. i can go back to previous layers but adjustments i make no longer show up. how should i do this?

thank you.

A pixel layer must have some form of content for anything to work on.

Group the high and low frequency layers and apply a sharpen or noise reduction filter to the group.

thanks for the reply. i tried what you said, but after i applied the filter for sharpening, affinity assistant automatically changes the grouped layer into one single layer. a prompt comes up saying affinity asistant rasterized it.

what im trying to do is apply my sharpening or noise reduction but still be able to go back to previous layers in case i want to change something in the future.

Sounds like you are applying filters from the Filters menu, these are destructive filters. You need to use the Live adjustment filters at the bottom of the layers panel, click on the icon that's shaped like two triangles pointing at each other LayersTabFilterIcon.png.8c95641c634ea8644cd842c1e48e5b95.png and use the sharpening and Denoise options there.
