davemike
Each time I open an 'Illustrator' file in 'Affinity Designer' it becomes 72 dpi - is there a solution to this?
Staff MattP Posted May 25, 2015 Staff Share Posted May 25, 2015 The problem is that the pdf stream in an ai file adheres to pdf specs - and pdf doesn't have a document dpi as such. It is normally inferred by the content in the document - so if you had any raster items in the document then the document would set itself to be the dpi of the highest resolution image found in the file. So it suggests your file has only vectors and hence there is nothing to offer a guide of intended dpi, do it adopts the notional 72dpi that you're seeing. If a document is purely vector and you've got a vector interchange format, then dpi doesn't matter... Illustrator gets it right because it reads the non-pdf stream version of the file - but this is a proprietary format that even Adobe's other software (photoshop, indesign) can't read - so we have very little chance! Hope that makes some sense? :) Matt
