Selecting Items on Artboard instead of by Layer?

Recommended Posts

Hello! Sorry if this question has already been answered 100+ times. I was wondering if there was a way to select items just by clicking on them, as opposed to having to click on them through the layer list?

For example, I type a title, turn the text into outlines/curves, but then after ungrouping, I have to click each letter in the layer menu to tweak it. Is there a way to bypass using the layer menu?

Thanks so much!

If each letter has been converted to a curve, just click on one on the canvas & Shift click to add others, or drag a marquee with the Move tool to select several at the same time. If they are in a group, you can double-click on one & then Shift click on others or drag the marquee, but you can't select items from more than one group. You can also use the keyboard shortcut for select all if you are in a group to select all of them.

The Status bar at the bottom of the workspace window will show a list of some of the options you have, & it is dynamic -- it may show different options depending on what is selected, so if you have not noticed it, keep an eye on it as you work -- it is really helpful as a learning tool.
