Duplicate layer icon image not showing in layers panel

When I do control J to duplicate a layer the duplicate layer icon doesn't appear in the layers panel. Any advice?

Welcome to the forums. 

It seems to be fine on my end. What happens if you move/change the colour of that star? Have you tried to save and reopen the document? Can you replicate it on a new document?
