Export bug - large images

Recommended Posts

I am trying to export a big file (7m wide x 3m high, 144dpi) to jpg.

The resulting jpg is incomplete.

The dimensions look ok, but some of the artwork is missing, or just cut off... almost like a printer ran out of ink.

I have this happening in the regular MAS version and the latest beta.

I'd rather not use a beta for production work, but the regular MAS version was also giving me garbled PDF exports, which the beta seems to have solved, or maybe I was just lucky.

This beta is also acting funny with extensions.

When I explicitly enter a filename in the export module and also type the extension, the resulting file is sometimes saved without extension.

Let me know if you want the design to troubleshoot this issue.

Is there a way I change the title of this topic ?

Upon further testing, I seem to have a problem with the Export function in general.

I just tested the Tiff export, and it is giving me the exact same incomplete export as the jpg export does.

Also, when exporting to pdf, the file looks ok in preview (although it really struggles to open the file), but when opening the file in acrobat, it is 5m wide instead of 7m and everything is blank... so it looks like the pdf file is corrupt.

Probably something in my afdesign file is causing this, but the layout is far from complex.

I just tried the psd export and it crashed Designer

help ?

please ?

Can you post the file that you are having problems with. Your JPEG will be 39686 pixels wide and is massive. Most applications would not be able to load an image that large but Affinity should be fine. I'm guessing that your PDF file problems are also because the size is so large. PDF reader often as problems with files that large.

If I can have a look at your file then I can advise you better.

Hi TonyB, thanks for looking into this.

I did some further troubleshooting.

I went in, and deleted my layers one by one, and each time did an export, just to see if there was something wrong with those layers.

The export behaved the same way each time... so it seems nothing is wrong with the artwork on these layers.

I finally managed to get something out of Designer with the export persona. I'm not really sure what I did, but exporting the "pre-defined" page slice as a jpg resulted in a complete jpg.

But with the export persona, I could not save a CMYK jpg. So I finally went into photoshop (sigh) and converted the rgb file to cmyk.

So there is a difference between the persona export and the file menu export.

I also noticed that jpg export has no progress bar, where the other filetypes do.

FWIW, I mostly work with files much bigger than this. The current design is mostly vector, but often there is a lot of bitmap work involved.

My photoshop psb files are gigantic and slow, but never do I have funky output.

Hi TonyB, I'd love to, but have no idea how.

As I said, the files I usually work with are much bigger than the one I sent you (see screenshot).

Do you have a fast FTP, or other cloud service where I can upload 5GB files ? (wetransfer is limited to 2GB)

Thanks for the file it's a big help. I can reproduce the problem here so we should be able to fix it soon.
