Heyah, so I've been using or trying to use Affinity photo for like 6 months+ now, and every time I'm having more than handful of layers tools that generally sample current layer and below become really laggy and basically unusable, I'm talking about tools like clone tool or healing brush / inpaint brush.

My laptop specs

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX with Radeon Graphics

GPU 1:    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU (115W version)

Memory:    32.0 GB   Speed:    3200 MT/s

2x 1TB M.2 SSD's (both with 100GB or more space free)

I'm working on 24 Mpx photos in TIFFs with layers, color profile is Linear ProPhoto RGB

Problem basically shows up when I'm using any tool that sample current layer and below once I have more than handful of layers, brush size doesn't really matter much, even with 45 px brush I get unusable slideshow, once I switch from current and below to current lagging stops, and everything becomes fluid again.

Somehow Affinity Photo manages to use 100% of GPU, and lag at the same time

This was never the case for me while using photoshop, even sampling current layer it can take  close to 100% regardless of brush size.

I did check with image resized to half size, and it is working better, so I get a feeling that clone tool and other tools that sample current and below layer, sample entire document all the time you're using those tools, in photoshop for example only brush area is being sampled, which is why it slows down as you increase brush size for those tools, affinity should have no problem implementing it this way too.

Did someone find any workaround to this issue?

(Just saying I know I could try to stay organized for once and have fewer layers, do all cloning at the start, buuuuuuuuut when I see something mid work that needs fixing I'm not gonna re-do entire document, or flatten just so I can manage)

Hi @Marushin,

Are you still having this issue?

Does disabling Hardware Acceleration in Settings>Performance for Affinity improve things?

My Windows laptop has a RTX 3050 Ti and while its not the same graphics card as yours, i'm not getting any lagging with Affinity when using the Clone tool or brush tools.
