Staff NathanC Posted January 27 Staff Posted January 27 Hi @NIgelJH, I'd initially recommend disabling Hardware Acceleration, found under the app settings -> Performance. Once the setting has been disabled, close the interface and restart the app when prompted to and then see how it performs moving forward. If the issue persists can you provide a screen recording demonstrating what's happening while working in the app? Many thanks NIgelJH 1 Quote
Art51 Posted January 27 Posted January 27 My system is kinda similar to yours (2019 Intel MacBook Pro with AMD Pro 5600M and 32GB) and I found that playing music/MP3s whilst using Affinity Photo 2 causes the biggest issues. It doesn't seem to matter which app I use for the music, but after a few minutes things get laggy and the beachball begins to appear regularly, particularly if I have a lot of layers in my project. I leave hardware acceleration ON so that I can use the DAUB brushes when painting, however app performance is less problematic if it is off. I get great performance by doing the following: Don't play music whilst using Affinity programmes Turn automatic graphics switching OFF in macOS settings Check macOS is not set to low power mode Set the following in Affinity Photo performance settings panel: Hardware acceleration ON Lower maximum RAM and disk usage warning (set to about 24GB and 20GB respectively) Set undo limit to about 500 View quality Bilinear Dither gradients ON Use precise clipping ON Use only integrated graphics OFF Retina rendering Automatic If you don't need hardware acceleration for brush performance, you can leave auto graphics switching ON and turn off hardware acceleration. Hopefully this helps! NIgelJH 1 Quote
NIgelJH Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 I have disabled Hardware Acceleration now for a few days as NathanC mentioned. Art51, I am using a desktop so much of the suggestions are not as critical. I don't use DAUB brushes just plain round brushes with varying degrees of Hardness and Flow. Thank you both for your advice and suggestions!! Quote
