Hi,

I'm new to Affinity Designer and I'm trying to navigate the program. I'm having trouble removing the white background from a document I created. It seems like I can't delete it.

I've looked at other replies to the same question but they don't mention a greyed out option.

Here are the steps I took:

1. Created a new document with a background.
2. Added an object.
3. Converted the object to a pixel layer.
4. In the Pixel Persona, I selected the Flood Selection Tool.
5. Selected the white background.
6. Tried to press delete, but it's not working—the delete option is grayed out.

Can anyone help me with this? Thank you!

Don't 'delete' it. Go to to File > Document setup... and change the Colour tab to have a Transparent background. You can also do this with a new document.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

That works! Thank you.

Is it just that the background can be removed from png files only?

PNG and TIFF files can have transparency, JPEGs cannot.
