Hi,

Bit of a newbie question.  I have just produced a starless image of a nebula in Starnet V2 and want to import it back into AP2 as a layer so that I can edit the stars and the nebula separately.  I tried using the "Place" function and while this does create a separate starless layer it also adds the starless image to the original image which I don't want.  Any ideas on how I can fix this or am I using the wrong process.

I am aware that the star exterminator plugin does this task however as it is $60 and Starnet is free I'm keen to find a solution.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Brian

Welcome to the forums @PipeVapour,

I'm not an astro expert, but I'd recommend checking out the JR Astrophotography Macro pack from James's website linked below, as one of the Macros in this pack will create a non-destructive PT filter to mask out the background from the stars. You could run this macro and then nest the PT filter onto the original image, and then file > Place the starless image behind it at the bottom of the layer stack, allowing you to edit the layers separately.
