I'm using Montserrat in a Designer 2.5.7 document on MacOS 14.7.1 (23H222). The font looks fine on the screen and in PDF outputs. But when I print directly through the printer, the "i" letter is intermittently missing when it directly follows the lowercase letter "f". There are many places where it renders exactly as expected.

The missing letters persist in the same locations (including when moving the affected paragraphs) through the following changes I have made:

  • Change typeface to Arial > save document > change to Montserrat
  • Change typeface to Arial > save document > close Designer 2 > re-open Desinger > change to Montserrat
  • New file > copy artboard
  • New file > copy artboard > change typeface to Arial > save > change to Montserrat
  • Restart Affinity
  • Restart Machine
  • Remove Montserrat from Font Book > reinstall
  • Revalidate Montserrat
  • Remove Montserrat from OS font cache libraries > remove Montserrat from Font Book > reinstall

I've attached a copy of the printout with the missing letters highlighted. I've also attached a copy of the Designer file.

I'd be grateful for any insights or other things to try. I'm trying to get this package out to a client and I'd like to use the typefaces consistent with my brand.

What version of Montserrat do you have installed? When I open your document the font is shown as missing even though I have the latest version of Montserrat installed from Google's website. I installed the variable version. Perhaps try updating the font? If you have the static version installed, remove all of those weights and then replace with the variable versions.

Also, an "f" with a missing "i" is likely a ligature issue. Turning off ligatures might help but I would start by updating the font.

Thanks @MikeTOI can try to reinstall the variable fonts. I think those were present (along with a slew of other weird variants that weren't in the download file I got from github). Weird that the fonts are missing.

I can look for the ligature setting and mess with that. It's kind of weird that it's not happening with other ligature combinations (at least, not as far as I can tell). FWIW, I'm using standard kerning.

First, though I'll remove the fonts I currently have, grab the fonts from the link you sent, and try those.

Thanks!

Ok, downloading the fonts from the link you provided worked @MikeTO. The dates on the files are definitely more current so hopefully that's all that was wrong. It was my error to assume the original typeface was ok.

Thanks a ton for your help!
