Daniel Höpfl Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Hi. I do not see a good way to do the following in V2.5 and since V2.6Beta adds some functionality regarding multi page spreads, I think this is the right forum to put this (as input for the developers): I am thinking about designing a book to be printed as soft cover with what I think is called PUR binding in English (edge of inner side of single sheets/pages is glued to the spine). Printing/Cutting tolerances require a bleed of 3mm on all sides. When setting up the document as using “Facing pages”, the inner bleed is removed so I cannot extend objects into that bleed. When exporting the PDF (as pages), the inner bleed of the left page is automatically filled with the left 3mm of the right side (and vice versa). That’s not what I need. (The facing pages are cut independently so they will never be “perfectly” connected. I cannot reasonably spread an image over both pages but that’s okay.) Setting a 0mm inner bleed and making the page 3mm wider would technically work but would mean that I have to do the bleed manually. Hiding the bleed (“Preview” button) no longer works, I cannot export without the bleed, etc. When setting up as single pages, I can extend elements of the page into the inner bleed and the PDF contains pages with separate inner bleeds. The PDF is as I need it, preview also works but since I no longer have facing pages in Publisher, I have to manually assign left/right masters to even/odd pages. How would you set this up? Is there already a way to set this up in Affinity Publisher? What I think I want is to specify if there is a “fold” (current inner) or an “edge” (current other) between two pages of a spread. Maybe also an option to say there is “no bleed” between two pages of a spread. Quote
MikeTO Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 With the upcoming version 2.6, you will be able to offset the right page of the spread to create a gap between them which will allow an inner bleed. Thanks a lot! I missed this one. That’s exactly what I needed. Obviously that dialog is under refactoring so just for the sake of completeness: Maybe it would be a good idea to show the fields but disable them unless “Selected Pages” is selected, X/Y is not a good label (Horizontal/Vertical Offset) and Undo (Cmd-Z) does not work in that dialog. The X and Y fields are hidden if Selected Pages is not selected. I agree that X and Y are insufficient labels and adding "offset" to them would be helpful.
