I have version 2 publisher on both my ipad and desktop (mac) and am trying to figure out how I can have the same book on both devices so I can work on the book in either platform. I like the mobility of my ipad and using the pencil, but want to also work on it at home on the desktop. Is this possible?

It can be done, but it's complicated, especially for Publisher. First, you won't be able to use the Book feature of Publisher, which allows you to organize your project into separate chapter-based .afpub files, as the iPad version of the app doesn't support them. Fortunately, most projects won't need that, and you can keep everything in one file.

Next, you need to make sure the same fonts (and versions of the fonts) are installed on both machines. That may be easiest if you save your project as a Package, because when you Open a Package file the fonts associated with it are automatically installed for use with that file.

For easy access, you'll probably want to store the files using a cloud service such as iCloud. But that also has risks and complications, as Serif recommends working on files saved on local storage, copying to or from the cloud at the start/end of your work session.

The way the iPad apps work also complicates things. On your Mac, when you save a file and close it, it exists on the disk you saved it on. On the iPad, files are normally kept in an application sandbox, which is not strongly connected to the copy on disk. You need to specifically Save/Close the file from the application Home Screen (Live Docs), so you're sure that there's a consistent copy on disk for the other machine to see. Until you Save it, it exists only in your sandbox, and any changes you made won't be seen by the other machine. And unless you Close it, when you go back to the file on the iPad you won't see changes made by the Mac.

You'll also need to make sure that iCloud (or whatever service you use) has finished synchronizing the files to the cloud before you close the iPad (and same for the Mac).
