Designer: Settings gone after 2.5.6 update

I have updated Affinity Designer from 2.5.5 to 2.5.6, and now all my settings are gone, such as custom palettes, window settings, history etc. How can I get them back?

During installation I was asked if I wanted to import all settings from v1, but as I was updating from v2 I did not say yes.

I would really expect my settings to be in place when updating only one patch version.

If you are a windows user maybe you chose the wrong download type of installer, have a look at the bottom of this post where the user solved the problem
