I'm new to Affinity, but I've been using Inkscape for years. I'm trying to replicate a technique I could achieve in Inkscape, but I can't find it in help or in this forum. Maybe I don't know the proper terms to search for. I want to create strokes with the effect of a calligraphy nib, where the width of the stroke depends on the angle I'm drawing at. For example, drawing a vertical line might be full width but as I curve it around to a horizontal line it becomes very narrow. I've attached a screenshot of an earlier project to show you what I mean.

In Inkscape, I could use the calligraphy tool, set the 'fixation' to 100 or so and set an angle. I adjust the width and color of the stroke, etc, and can start drawing. I've got a lot of little symbols to draw with this, so I don't want to go back and edit them.

Is there any way to get something similar from Affinity? The vector brush tool has a size variance option, but I don't see any way to specify the angle of the variance. I only see options to vary the stroke based on pressure and velocity, not by angle of the stroke, but maybe I'm missing something.

There are no vector calligraphic brushes in the Affinity suite. You can make a calligraphic Pixel brush* but then you have no ability to go back and adjust the width or length of individual strokes.

* Pretty much do as you describe for Inkscape.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Thank you. I guess I've got to go back and do that part of the project in Inkscape.
