Margins and Transform Locks

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I’d like to propose two new features that could be incredibly useful and time-saving, especially for larger projects.

  1. Margin Objects: These would function similarly to guidelines but be attached to specific objects. This means they would move with the object. For example, you could create building blocks with consistent margins between them, which can be easily managed via assets. This would be great for layouts where maintaining uniform spacing is important.

  2. Lock Transform: This feature would allow you to "freeze" certain transformation values, like the X position. It would be really handy for ensuring that specific elements always stay in the same position. In larger projects, I often encounter a situation where a text element looks aligned with the left edge but is actually anchored to a graphic that's close to the edge. With a Lock Transform feature, you could fix the X position of text elements to avoid such issues. Ideally, these locked values would also be saved in assets, so you could drag perfectly aligned elements straight into your document without having to adjust their position.

I’ve attached an example graphic to illustrate the idea. As a developer, I know these features would be relatively simple to implement, but they would add significant value to the workflow.

What do you think?
