Rulers and nodes disappear, can't see what I’m doing!

Recommended Posts

I can be working on a project and then all rulers, guides, transform boxes and object nodes suddenly disappear from view, I can't visually reinstate them from the usual menus. Once this happens, I also can't visually reselect or draw anything easily in the project as there's no visual feedback on nodes or transform boxes. Even when making new objects, I can't see the nodes I’m drawing.

Toggling preview modes don't bring them back. Oddly the Grid remains functional and visible, however.

I have to exit the project, reload it, and all the key visual and object aids are immediately restored. I can then work on the project, until they decide to disappear again.

It's happening to me a lot, I'm not sure what triggers it.

Demo video below, you can't see easily, but I'm trying to visually select the objects and nodes, and make new ones with the pen tool, and am also trying to get the rulers back up again.

Am I doing anything wrong? Thanks.

iPad Air 2 running iOS v15.8.3 (the latest for my older model), and the latest Affinity Designer v2.5.5 version.

Hi @Timø,

Thanks for the recordings.

I've tried to replicate this on our iPad Air 2 running iOS 15.8.3 and haven't been able to.  From what i can see in your recording, you don't appear to be doing anything wrong.

Lets try a reset of Affinity, to do this, fully quit Affinity and then start it again and as soon as you see the loading screen double tap it with your fingers and you'll be shown a Clear User Defaults screen and 1 switch will be active and you can just tap on Reset.  Affinity will then load as normal, now see if you can replicate the issue.

Thanks, carried out steps as suggested but it has still done it again after an hours usage.

All I’m doing is drawing and snapping object geometry to guides or transforms.

For reference I’m drawing an unfolded dodecahedron. Essentially just drawing pentagons, copy/pasting them, manipulating their transforms and using guides to accurately snap their points to each other to build an unfolded model, similar to below:

I’ve included my working project, still working on it, it's only half done.

The only change I made in Affinity settings was increase the snap tolerance.
