Scale constrained objects WITHOUT constrains

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am using Affinity to design the UI for an app. The current app works in browsers and now I'm starting to design a mobile version. I would like to reuse the components and objects I created for the main app, but I need them to be in a different scale.

I have created some very complex objects using objects inside objects with constrains, for example: a type of "ruler" with several squares, lines and numbers inside that I can adjust to the dimension of the screen without losing the correct dimensions.

BUT... if I try to scale it, as expected, the objects respect their constrains... So basically, it's impossible for me to make a 2x version of the object without undoing all the constrains and doing them again.

SUGGESTION: I would like to have a "check" on the constrain panel to DEACTIVATE ALL CONSTRAINS temporarily... In order to be able to do this.

Another (complementary) option would be to use "Alt" while scaling to override the internal constrains of the object.

The ability to temporarily bypass constraints would be a welcome feature by many, and has been requested before:

The option key on the Mac (typically mirrors the ALT key on Windows) is already used to ignore snapping.  All four modifier keys already have functions assigned to them when resizing using the move tool, so there are none left to serve this purpose.  There would need to be a preference to customize the functionality of the modifiers so you could pick which ones are relevant to your way of working, and Serif seems to be resistant to offering that level of customization at this time (or perhaps simply has not prioritized doing so).

Thanks for the answer... I'm sorry for the double-post. I tried to search but didn't find the correct one.

I forgot know ALT ignores snapping.

In that case, the check on the Constrain panel remains an option.

I think this is really important, as stated by many users. Otherwise constrain become a big constrain on your work 😅.

By the way... this would also be very useful for COPY/PASTE object with constrains into another object...

It's very annoying when I copy an object with constrains from the artboard and paste it into a smaller object. It can end up somewhere random hidden from your view.
