LoremIpsum
Hi! I'm a real newbie when it comes to AD2. I've been using Adobe Illustrator for years as a student, but now that I'm not a student anymore, that's way too overpriced for me. I decided to go to AD2 after watching some comparison videos and tutorials. I use a Cricut for cutting/scoring paper. I used to design some templates in Illustrator and then export those to the Design Space (DS) from Cricut in order to cut/score it. Now I want to use AD2 for that first part. I've created a simple cat-like design in AD2 and tried exporting as SVG to de DS. Problem is, everything is super tiny, stretched out crazy (even though I grouped things) and objects that were stroke only are now filled in black (see screenshot below). What am I doing wrong? I've been looking at several videos and forum pages to try some other settings. I can't seem to make it work. I did read somewhere that strokes HAVE to be filled as shape in order to work - is that true? If that is the case, AD2 is unfortunately useless to me, since strokes will turn into scoring/cutting lines in the DS. Are there other settings to change? What am I doing wrong, please help a newbie out! I've included two screenshots of the DS outcome and two screenshots of AD2, with settings included. I alteady had seen that post and tried the settings. I asked if the curves HAVE to be merged. If so, unfortunately AD2 is no use to me.. I need to be able to create lines and export/import it as a line instead of a shape.
firstdefence
Can you upload the file you are demonstrating here? Ive exported a cat face of sorts using lines and it exports fine. The two eyes are shapes. crimsonBlue
No idea if you’re still struggling with this, but I decided to tackle it since I’m in the process of switching over from Illustrator too. Seems that the SVG export needs to have everything deselected except “Flatten Transforms.” Got that from a post in this thread: SVG files showing up tiny in Cricut DS. For me that keeps everything together and the right size. Other observations that may be useful … To make things show up better in DS and not cover other elements, the 3 main cut shapes should be filled with a colour and each needs to be under all the other shapes and lines in their group. The black lines on the body, tail and head make sense to me. Just need to select them in DS and set them to be Draw:score or Draw:pen. Not sure about the filled circles for the pupils or the filled red stripes. I’m guessing that they’re separate shapes that will be cut out and glued onto the face and tail? Alternately they could be filled with a hatch pattern, which I discovered today and don’t know how to do. Hope that helps someone 🙂
