creativenomad
Ok So I have a seamless jpg image I used the place tool on and then made a new pattern layer from selection. Actually I've done this with several... On Affinity photo on my mac, no problems... On ipad photo version... lines every time. At first I thought it was something with my images so that's when I tried the same image on the computer (I like to work on the ipad to get away from the desk). It's perfect on the computer. Has horizontal and vertical lines with ipad, and if I use the alpha layers technique I found on here I have to lower the white to zero and I still get horizontal lines on export... This is really frustrating as I like to design on the go as a busy parent. Any ideas why it's happening? I've included a screenshot of the three since my files would be too big. Goes from just the pattern layer ipad photo, ipad photo with the layer adjustment, and photo on the mac. The workaround i tried-
NotMyFault
Hi @creativenomad welcome to the forum and sorry to hear about your issue. can you share the jpg used as source for pattern layer? how did you setup the document (which template was used)? Document should use pixel as units, and activate forced pixel alignment in snapping settings. possible causes: placed jpg is misaligned (fractional position) jpg is scaled / stretched selection uses feather option. Feather must be zero. the workaround from linked post helps only if canvas is transparent. Screenshot lets me assume you use white canvas. Then you must group the layers, and nest adjustments layer into masking position. if possible, upload an example document. Copy only relevant layers into new document to reduce size if needed. creativenomad
Ok found the transparent option. And it now worked, but why does it work perfectly fine without this step on the computer but not on the ipad? While the app is 90% identical in functionality and uses the same codebase on all platforms, the UI is totally different on iPad and many functions are missing. You may have run into one of those differences. More probably you had some variations in the workflow. To find out, verify that the settings were identical in both apps, including transparent canvas (which is chosen depending on the preset/template you start with). E.g. some settings of tools are not reset after edits, so it depends on what changes to settings you made before while editing another document. save the files with history and compare if the history panel shows the exact same sequence of steps.
