TOC Text Styles with Bullet Points Cannot Be Removed in Affinity Publisher

Recommended Posts

Text Styles which can be selected in the TOC panel which contain a Bullet Point cannot be removed when added into the TOC.

The TOC creates it’s own Text Styles and all available options work as “No Change”. All Bullet Points options ADD to the style essentially treating all options as No Change which does not make sense.

This is particularly an issue for the Option ‘No List’ which should remove any bullet points for each TOC item added for the current Text Style. This needs to be corrected since it would require setting the main Text Style in the document to No List so the TOC does not include the bullet points.

Screenshot:

You see the headers contain a triangle in the main document. In the TOC these are picked up. You will see in the Style Editor that I already have 'No List' selected.  Furthermore, as I hover over other options such as Numeric, it only adds to the Style, effectively treating all options as No Change. This is not how the software should, pls fix this behavior.

I believe it's because the paragraph number or bullet inherited from the heading is treated as text in the TOC. Defining bullets and numbers for a TOC style creates a new bullet and number in addition to what was inherited. AFAIK, there's no way to remove the inherited bullet or number in the TOC.

However, I'm a bit surprised there isn't an option named Remove Bullets and Numbers similar to Remove Line Breaks. This might be a good feature suggestion.

I was expecting that behavior to be the 'No List' option.

It doesn't seem to reference the source style at all, none of the fields are available which is odd.
