Clipping mask basic help needed

Recommended Posts

Working with a vector image in AD, I would like to achieve the final effect shown in the attached black and white image. I want the final curves to be white for printing on a black ground.

I am confused by masks and clipping layers, so would appreciate some guidance on how to make use of these if, as I suspect, this is the most logical way to achieve the end result.

In the second attached image, I've shown the three layers I'm working with - 1 white graphic; 2 black keyline; 3 white text.

What I think I need to do is use 2 to clip 3 with a transparent fill.

I have no idea how to do this

If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

If I understand what's going on correctly.... you could just set the blending mode for #2 to Erase.

In this case, though, I'd change the #2 shape to be closed (not just lines/stroke... if that's what it is), place it in-between the two shapes and the O and B. Not as a child or as a mask. Then set the blending mode to Erase.

This way the knock out will have a perfect fit around all the shapes.

How are you printing this? White ink?
