Chandlerart Posted November 22, 2023 Posted November 22, 2023 Hi, I'm new to Affinity and I'm just trying to figure out a few things on the iPad version. Something I can not figure out is Outlining a selection. Nothing happens when I click on it. I've been trying to find a demo that just simply answers it, but I can't find anything. If someone can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated, as this is a feature I use a fair bit in my imagery. Quote
Staff NathanC Posted November 22, 2023 Staff Posted November 22, 2023 Welcome to the forums @Chandlerart, To clarify, do you want to add an outline stroke to an pixel selection area on an image? If so, with the background layer selected in the layers panel and with a pixel selection area active on the canvas, you could duplicate the selection to create a new pixel layer from that selection area, and then use the Layer FX 'Outline' FX to add a stroke to the new pixel layer. I've created a brief recording demonstrating this. RPReplay_Final1700658960.MP4 Quote
Chandlerart Posted November 23, 2023 Author Posted November 23, 2023 Hi, I appreciate the reply and the demo, but for whatever reason, I still can't get it to work. It's not even cutting and pasting the selected area. I also don't get the two slide bars on the left to create the line. I can create the desired effect I need on the desk top, but on the iPad I feel like I'm just continually running into issues. Quote

Make sure that in the layers panel you have a Pixel layer actively selected so it's pixel content can be manipulated and duplicated, if it's an image type layer the entire contents will be copied when you duplicate the selection. You can convert an object/image to a pixel layer from the menu highlighted below by selecting 'rasterise'. 3 hours ago, Chandlerart said: I also don't get the two slide bars on the left to create the line. The sliders will only appear if you have the 'Outline' effect in the FX panel currently highlighted/selected and enabled as shown in the recording. If you're still having problems if you could provide us with a screen recording we can assess what's potentially going wrong, I've linked the FAQ below on screen recording. Chandlerart 1 Quote
