Strange box appearing around text on a certain font

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm having an issue with a specific font (Pangram's Neue Montreal Mono) showing a strange box around it in Affinity.

This only happens with this font on uppercase characters, and it only happens in Affinity Designer & Publisher. This behaviour is not exhibited in Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop.

There doesn't appear to be anything set as a stroke (which would show around the individual characters anyway).

Any ideas where I can look to get rid of it?

Thanks!

Never mind - I found some weird things checked ON in the Typography window: "Word Position Forms"

Is there any way to set these as off by default? It's a real problem having to turn them off on every instance of this font.

They should be off by default.

Create a new document, choose a text tool, and type some text. Does it default to this font (and did you want it to default to this font)?

If it didn't default to this font and choosing this font still has these Typography options set, you'll need to reset your defaults.

  1. Create a new document, choose Frame Text, and draw a frame
  2. Choose the font
  3. Turn off the Typography options you didn't want
  4. Change the font back to whatever default font you normally use - skip if you want this font
  5. Choose Edit > Defaults > Save

Good luck.
