If you have Publisher as well, you can try to recover faulty documents by starting a new document in Publisher and then use; Document > Add pages from file…
Then navigate to your faulty document and choose it.
After doing that I found a layer that wasn’t behaving and possibly the sauce of the corruption…🤔
I deleted it and then Copy/Pasted everything into a new Designer document. (Attached but it needs tidying up some!☺️)
