Publisher taking up excessive space

Recommended Posts

Hello. I have a 6th generation iPad that I use exclusively for one document I am creating in Publisher (Studio link) and my storage is now at/over capacity. I have read to try deleting and reinstalling the app but I am nervous about doing this relying only on my iCloud backup so I am wondering what would be the recommended way to backup onto a flash drive or hard drive. Or are there any other ways to free up storage on my iPad? (Screenshot attached) Thank you for your time.

First, make sure you are Saving your files, not just leaving them in Live Docs.

And when you Save them, save them in a folder you created and named yourself, not in a folder like Publisher 2 that may have been created automatically for you as the automatically-created folders are also deleted when you uninstall the application. (Note: I am not sure these folders are created for the V2 applications.)

As some users have reported problems reopening documents they previously saved, for very important documents you might also want to save a second copy and verify the saved files are good. For example, starting in Live Docs:

  1. Tap the 3-bar menu for the document, and choose Save As. Specify a name, such as document.afpub, and Save in an appropriate folder.
  2. Tap the 3-bar menu for the document again, and choose Save As. Specify a different name, such as document-copy.afpub, and Save in an appropriate folder.
  3. At that point you will have both document an document-copy in Live Docs. Tap on each to make sure they open properly, returning to Live Docs from each.
  4. Tap the X icon to close document.afpub. When prompted to Save, don't save.
  5. Tap on Open, and choose document.afpub from your folder. If it opens properly, you know you have a good copy saved. Return to Live Docs.
  6. You can repeat steps 4 and 5 for document-copy if you want to verify it is good, too. At that point you know you have a good file, and a good backup.
  7. You can then close both files from Live Docs again, leaving Live Docs empty.
  8. At that point, you should be safe uninstalling and reinstalling the application.
