How do auto-scroll and auto-switch category of brushes work?

How do those work? They don't seem to do anything. Affinity Photo 2.2 for iPad.

For me they seem to do as the Help describes.

For example, note how it switches back to the last-used brush and category when I switch back to the Brush Tool from the Pen Tool.

Yes, I read that. But it does not seem to do anything. If I switch to erase with another brush and return to painting, it now paints with the erase brush. If I go to Erase in another category, the Paint brush follows along to that category and brush.

You're switching among Brush Tools; try switching to a different non-Brush Tool.

Also, in Settings, Assistant Options, what do you have for Brush Tool Sharing?

All brush tip shared

It seems to stay with the last brush chosen in any category.

If a brush is chosen in the Smudge tool, Paint goes to that brush rather than to the previous Paint brush.

Probably because you're sharing the brushes among all the Brush Tools, with that Assistant Option. If you don't want to share them, you should find there's an Assistant Option for that, but I'm away from the iPad now so I can't tell you what it is.

With smart tip sharing (the other option) it seems to work.

But please make that distinction clear in the directions.

There is a 3rd option in that scrollable list: no tips shared.

As I have no idea what Smart does, I usually use No if I have problems
