Sharon Villines
I have a photo of a building that I want to process so I can demonstrate how different colors would look on the building. I have these layers: Background, Foreground sections, recessed sections, 4th floor sections, Building Trim, Gables. I used copies of the background file to create a layer for each of these elements by erasing things not in that layer (negative spaces). I then added color adjustments to the layers. It works but the colors are not true to the values fro each color. I'm using Sherman Williams color codes. The colors are very pale unless I use 3-4 color adjustment layers for each color. I think it is because the elements on the layer are not transparent so the color is diluted. I erased the areas around the window trim, for example, but the trim is still white, not blank. I realize that I should have made masks for each element and applied color adjustments to those. BUT the details require that I be able to see the background layer as I paint out the window trim, railings, etc. The mask would be very detailed. How do I get a mask layer that is transparent so I can see the original image?
Staff Callum Posted July 28, 2023 Staff Share Posted July 28, 2023 Hi Sharon, There isn't really a way to have a transparent mask you could paint black over your mask to show the layers underneath however this would also remove any adjustment the mask might be applied to. Its hard to say what is causing your colours to be pale without seeing a copy of the file if possible could you attach a copy to this thread so I can look into this further with you? If you would rather not post it publicly let me know and I will provide a link to our DropBox. Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP.
