Data Merge Manager How to generate into separate files.

Recommended Posts

I need to create hundred of certificates in individual PDF files to be sent out to the holders' emails and was looking of a way to create these with a filename that I could create out of the merged data (i.e date + the individuals name from the certificate + serial number). Creating a single PDF and then splitting it up with another tool would not work for me.

I found this older thread and was wondering if there is an easier way of creating this now from within Affinity Publisher.

Thanks for any suggestion...

No. Data Merge generates a single file.

If you need multiple files, you will need to break it up. You can do that (as I think that other thread describes) by Exporting a PDF then splitting the PDF, which can be done either by using a separate (non-Affinity) tool or by using Designer or Photo to Open the PDF and then using the Export Persona to export the resulting Artboards as individual PDF files.

Thanks Walt, that will not be useful, since I'm loosing the fields that I need to create the individual file names. Let's say I create a certificate for Walt Farrell through a merge from a data file and I want to save it as an individual PDF with the filename "walt farrell.pdf" and then move to the next name in the data file.

I understand this is still not possible in Affinity Publisher, so I'll have to stick to my current workflow, where I export my master art as a SVG file and open it in another popular open source vector graphic program that has an add on to do that. It is just more time consuming and more complex.

Thanks for your reply though

You can try to create it this way. It may be a little faster.
Create a single PDF file after merging the data.
Open it in Designer. Use a clipboard program. It can be Clipdiary (it is free). Copy all the names you'd like to name the files to the clipboard.
In Designer, click on the first layer you want to rename. Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+UP or Ctrl+Shift+Down to paste the desired file name. To move to the next layer, press TAB.
After that, go to Export Persona, select the output file format - PDF and create Sliсes. Export the Slices. You'll get separate PDF files.
