Sony ARW files fail to open - not supported ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

New member but long term AP user and up until now without any issues.

I've recently got a Sony A7rV camera. I've just tried to open an image file in the ARW format and I'm getting the error message as per the attached image.

I've been able to open ARW files from my previous cameras. I've done a quick search but can't find any info.
Any help appreciated

Alex

That camera is not listed as one of the cameras that the Serif Labs RAW Engine supports (via LibRAW), in the FAQ on supported cameras.

I don't know for sure that this explains your problem, as I'm more used to seeing the pictures open strangely, rather than being rejected with that message.

Can you attach one of your files?

Sony has come out with newer models like A7CII and R versions and they shoot 10 bit video and generate .ARW raw files and none are supported in Windows 11.

Sony has not even provided a driver for their raw files and videos.

Looks like a disjointed development across various product manufacturers like Sony, Windows 11, Intel Mac.
