Copy data info from a spreadsheet into Publisher tables

Recommended Posts

Can you make it where a copy of vertical cells data from Excel spreadsheet pastes into Publisher table cells? It works like this in inDesign from Excel. Now it will only place the next line in the same cell like a return making the cell bigger to fit the copied data.

Yes, this feature. Need proper pasting of data into multiple table cells, not just in RTF but also CSV/TSV.

One idea is for Paste Special to have options for how to interpret the clipboard data as multiple cells rather than a huge blob of text pasted into one cell. Perhaps try to make Paste in tables "smart" by default, make "paste without formatting" force everything into one cell, and allow Paste Special to have options like CSV/TSV/RTF table data to force a particular interpretation when the default "smart paste" behavior doesn't interpret the data as intended.

The solution seems to be:

  • prep your data in your spreadsheet
  • export as an MS Excel doc
  • In Affinity Publisher, use the Place tool to place the Excel doc. (It will be interpreted as a table.)

Microsoft Excel Workbook spreadsheets (XLSX) can be placed directly in Publisher as tables. The following are not currently supported:

Some formatting, but not all, appears to carry over.

Posting this here mostly so next time I have this question, when I search it, this answer will pop up! 😄
