Why can't certain layers of some PSD files be edited?

Hey All,

I'm somewhat new to editing and making posters.  I've purchased some PSD files from websites such as Game Changers.  Some PSD files do not allow for all layers to be changed/edited.  Is there something that I'm not doing?  Should all layers be editable?

Hi @Denis11676 and welcome to the forum.

Adobe uses a proprietary data area in their file formats to store various effects and settings that cannot be read by third-party programs.

Adobe creates a quasi monopoly position with this.
