The idea for this is to have a more realistic shadow by using the edge color of the layer that the Layer Effect is being applied to, there is a way to create this manually but it would involve copying the layer itself and that would break the Nondestructive flow, could also be added to other Layer Effects such as Outer Glow / Outline

Without, just an Outer Shadow:

As you can see the top one looks more appealing/realistic.

This option would remove the need of copying the whole group to nest it in itself which you would also have to edit when editing the main one:

( I also don't think this has been done in any other software )
