'fix' groups in Affinity Designer?

Recommended Posts

Is there a way to 'lock' or 'fix' a group in Affinity Designer?

I work a lot with nested groups (or groups in groups) where the subgroups are mostly 'fixed' designs that needs no further modifications.

When you click on an object in a group normaly he whole group is selected.

When you click holding the ctrl-key the object itself is selected wich is great to work on that object. But if the object is part of a sub-group, it would be great if there is a way to preserve (fix) those groups so here the (sub-)group is selected in stead of the nested object.

When you lock a layer or group with the key-symbol it is realy fixed and you can't do anything with it, I just want to be able to easily select a sub-group for easy changing the position or scaling or so, without to worry about changeing the contenu of that group.

I hope there is a way to do just that?

Many thanks in advance,

Hi @FilMar welcome to the forums,

Currently, there isn't a method to lock a group that exists within a parent group as you have described. Locking a Group/Object within the layers panel currently only prevents accidental transformation (and selection from the canvas) of that particular layer when it is selected. If a locked object/group exists within a parent group, it will still scale and have it's attributes changed when the parent group is modified/transformed.

There is an outstanding feature request in regards to changing how locked layers function to be closer to how other apps lock layers, i've linked the relevant thread below if you wish to voice your support.
