Hi All

Im new with Affinity; Im with the evaluation version; Ive always used Photoshop and maybe thats what making difficult to adapt, because unconsciously I go to the already known path...
I have some questions I will try to enumerate the best I can instead of opening a topic for each?

1.- When I resize or crop document the image doest cover the whole canvas; actually I find "Sawtooth on the edges".

2.- If I rotate the image and don´t want to crop but clonning the empty canvas with the existing image the tool doesnt work outside the image as it does in Photoshop, for instance.

3.- I miss an intuitive panel with "distort", "distort", "perspective", "scale", "skew", "rotate"... tools or Lens Correction.

4.- Is there a way to enlarge canvas size with a determined color so it works as passepartout? In PS I used to increase size in white and after, again in black with 2 pixels each side.

Thanks for reading!

Hi ivvann,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

1. This is due to the way Affinity render the image on screen. If you change the zoom level it may disappear or change the boundary where it appears. In any case this doesn't affect the image (neither the output if you export it)

2. Make sure the image is a Pixel layer (and not an Image layer). You can check this looking at the label after the layer's name in the Layers panel. To convert it to a Pixel layer, right-click on it in the Layers panel and select Rasterise.... Image layers are considered an object layer type and can only be transformed globally (scale, skew, rotate etc). Pixel layers are general "containers" where you can perform operations at a pixel level.

3. Scale, skew and rotate can be performed directly on object using the Move Tool in Affinity apps. Place the cursor over the bounding box control handles of any object and drag the mouse. Each handle can perform two different operations depending on its position: corner handles can scale and rotate (place the mouse cursor near the handle coming from outside to see it changing to the second operation); middle control handles can stretch (or scale, if you press a modifier key) and skew. Lens Correction is available in Develop Persona in the Studio panels on the right of the interface.

For distortions you can use the Perspective and Mesh Warp Tools near the bottom of the toolbar (click the small triangle to open a pop up menu and switch tools) or the Filters (some of them update in realtime - like the Perspective Live Filter)

4.There's no way to define a background colour in Affinity. Currently you have to fill the bottom layer with a color (menu Edit ▸ Fill...) or use a rectangle/shape (or two in the case of you example) to create the passpartout. You can easily align them if you enable Snapping.

To enlarge the canvas go to menu Document ▸ Resize Canvas...
