Svg file Export — trouble with grouped layers

Recommended Posts

I have a question about svg files. I am working with my iPad and create svg files using the Publisher or Designer. Something strange happens periodically. While I am creating layers, not groups, for each Color, I get groups after saving the file. After saving my file as svg I send it to my computer and open it in Inkscape. There the layers show up as groups. This doesn’t happen all the time but mostly. I guess there must be a button I should turn on or off to avoid this to be happen.

Hi @Ilka Kallinich,

Thanks for your post and our sincerest apologies for the delayed response here. We are exceptionally busy following the release of V2 and we thank you for your continued patience and understanding here.

Opening your SVG file in Designer shows these as Layers, not groups.

As far as I'm aware, this will be down to how Inkscape imports and reads the SVG file.

There's no such option that I know of in Affinity to affect this, as above the layer structure in third party applications will depend on that applications SVG importer. I suspect Inscape support may be able to confirm the reason for Layers importing as Groups in certain circumstances if you provide a file that opens as Layers and a file that opens as Groups, when only using Layers in Affinity.

I hope this clears things up!

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!
