Can someone confirm that automatic upload of crash reports actually is happening with APhoto2 when that option is checked in Preferences/Miscellaneous?

APhoto2 (2.0.4 MSI) just vanished from my screen when I opened a curves adjustment in a simple collage with two embedded image layers, two clipping rectangle layers, and one brightness adjustment layer. I've almost never had APhoto crash in the five years I've been using it, so I was very surprised.

I did find a crash report where it is supposed to be. Also APhoto2 offered to open a recovery file, and that worked as expected. I then continued with my editing. The crash was not reproducible so I'm not reporting it formally.

Hi, since nobody else has replied, IMO crash reports that are uploaded automatically are useful but only to an extent.

  • I don't assume that every crash report is looked at. Developers get a lot of these sent automatically so they look for patterns and spikes rather than trying to figure out each one.
  • Crash reports don't always provide the context required. If you're experiencing a repeatable crash it's more useful to post a bug report with the crash report, the steps to reproduce it, and a test document if that makes it easier to reproduce. This also causes other customers to see it and chime in.

In your case of a crash that wasn't reproducible, that automatic crash report might be useful if others are experiencing a similar problem because then more reports would be sent and a pattern might emerge.

Just my two cents.
