Hi.

I have installed Affinity Photo V2 on my Windows 11 PC. In the Brushes panel there is no information - all of the pre-defined brushes, those I have purchased from the Affinity store and from third party vendors simply do not appear. There is nothing at all listed under brushes. I have uninstalled the programme and reinstalled it. I have double checked all of the obvious things, but nothing happens. I installed Affinity Photo V2 on my laptop and imported all of my brushes without any problem. On the desktop however....

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

Unfortunately, that is a problem some users have experienced, but as far as I know Serif has not identified the cause yet nor released a fix.

As a workaround:

  1. Make sure none of the V2 apps are running.
  2. Press and hold the Ctrl key and click on Photo 2 to start it. Keep Ctrl pressed until you see the Clear User Data dialog. You may need to click on the app icon in the Windows Taskbar if the dialog doesn't show up. Once you have the dialog, release Ctrl.
  3. Uncheck everything in the dialog, and check Reset Brushes. The press Clear.

That should reset the brushes for all the V2 apps to their factory default status.

Thanks for the very prompt response! I did what you suggested, but unfortunately with no result to report. The Brushes panel remains empty. Hopefully Affinity will get to grips with this as it is rendering the software unusable.

Update: I downloaded Designer V2 and went through the installation process. The pre-defined brushes and those purchased from Affinity all appeared in the Brushes panel. I then imported those brushes from third party vendors and they imported and appeared in the brushes panel without problem. I then went and installed Photo V2 again from scratch. This time, all of the brushes appeared in the Brushes panel without any problem. Having spent the last 6 hours trying to achieve the same result without success, I cannot explain what I did differently!

Strange. That generally works..

Perhaps try again, but this time leave the first 3 items checked, and also check Reset Brushes again.

Thanks Walt - in the meantime, I have had inexplicable success (please see my update posted above). The only thing I did differently was to install Designer V2 first (rather than Photo V2) and use that to import all of my brushes. It then synched with Photo V2 when I installed that. For some odd reason, this sequence of events was successful rather than installing Photo V2 first. Im afraid I cannot come up with any explanation for this. Thank you however for taking the time to reach out! Best wishes
