Hyphenation not working with an imported .doc file

Recommended Posts

The paragraph style is set at Justified with last line on the left. And the right dictionary is selected but it won’t cut the words. I even open the doc file in textedit and saved it as .text with no success. I also suppress all the imported styles when using the doc file. What is strange is I did another  project before this one with another .doc file sent from the same person and the hyphenation worked fine.

Thanks for your help.

First, I'll assume you really mean .docx, as Publisher doesn't work with .doc files.

If hyphenation is not working, the most likely reasons are these, I think:

  • Automatic Hyphenation is not enabled in the Paragraph Text Style (or the Paragraph panel, for non-styled text).
  • The correct language is not specified under Language, Hyphenation, in the Paragraph Text Style or Character Text Style (or the Character panel for non-styled text).
  • Edit: Or, possibly, the right hyphenation dictionaries are not installed.
