Affinity Photo Layers

Please excuse me if I'm doing something stupid but I've just bought Photo v2 and I'm puzzled by a layers issue. When I add an adjustment layer from the option below the layers panel a new layer is added above the background layer - that's how I expect it to happen. When I use the drop down menu to add a new adjustment layer the new layer is "embedded" in the background layer. I find this confusing and would like a new layer to be added in both cases rather than having to drag the adjustment layer out of the background.

 

Hope someone can help or explain what's happening.

If you always want the adjustment to be added as a new layer instead of a child of a selected layer, in the Assistant preferences, set Adding adjustment layer to selection to Add adjustment as new layer.

Thanks R C-R. Will go ahead and set that up .... Just done it and problem solved.
