selecting similar layers, limited to current group [APv1 ADv1]

Recommended Posts

[For APv1 and ADv1, not v2; I'm firmly committed to NOT upgrading]

In the attached document, I want to choose all the [whatever] in ONE of the groups to bulk change the fill color.

Selecting by either fill color (in ADv1) or tag color (in APv1, after manually adding color tags to each layer) selects that fill/tag color in both groups. I want to end up with a file containing 10 groups, all colored differently.

I've already saved the single-group copy 10 times, which will give me the desired end result (10 jpg files) but I'd like to know if there's a single file method (which would be consistent with my normal workflow.)

  1. File > Edit in Publisher
  2. add as many pages as you need
  3. place each pattern group on an individual page
  4. File > Edit in Designer
  5. Select Same Tag Color will now affect only each single page
  6. browse pages in Designer using the navigation in bottom left corner

Provided you also have Publisher, of course…

Other than that, the next time you may want build up your design using different workflows, for example:

  • Begin with named objects and build up the design by duplicating them, thus keeping their unique names intact
  • More strict grouping by z-index
  • Using Symbols, which you may want to partially unsync to keep certain attributes individual
  • Using Compound Objects, possibly also combined with Symbols
