Grab objects by the nodes

I try to reflect a complex object on one of its edges. From what I've read, there is no simple tool for that yet. My approach is:

• duplicate the object
• flip the copy
• move the copy so one corner hits its copy
• rotate the copy around that corner until the edge matches

I'm struggling at the third step: moving an object so the nodes coincide. I can snap to a node of the other object, but I cannot "grab" the node. With the move tool, i can only grab "somewhere" on the object. With the node tool, i can only grab nodes of a single curve - it does not work if a complex object is selected.

 

Any advice on this? I'd love to finally ditch Illustrator, but the capabilities of Affinity Designer for geometrical construction are not quite there yet (I know, that is not what the program is meant for...)

I draw the purple objects, then I want a reflected copy of them (green) with the reflection along the dashed line

Thanks a lot, I never thought of scaling (in fact, I restricted scaling since I wanted an identically sized copy)
