Crashpad_handler(?) cause unusable programs. Affinity 2 on win10

Recommended Posts

I said yes  to help Serif by sending them crash reports. Publisher starts but it takes for ever to be able to use. Photo and designer stops at  Initialising with 0% CPU. Studiolink works so I can use them in Publisher. But they should be able to operate separately and without the time delay at start.

I have gone into Preferences in Publisher and unticked the box for automatic crash reports. But the crashpad_handler.exe still starts for all three programs. I don't think the crashpad_handler started before I opted in for the crash report help.

Reinstalling does not help.

Does anyone have a solution?

The crash pad handler has been a part of the Affinity program for years. And it always starts, as far as I know, regardless of your settings.

I doubt that it's part of your problem.

Are you trying to start Photo and Designer while Publisher is still starting up? If so, perhaps just wait until it's ready. Or start them first, but individually.

However, if one of them seems to be hung, you can expand the listing in Task Manager (as you show above), then right click on the application name (second line of the group), and choose Create Dump. That will create a .dmp file in your temp directory, which Serif may find useful in diagnosing the problem. I suggest, if you do this, that you copy the file to another more-permanent directory so it doesn't get deleted before Serif tells you where to upload it.
